Themes and new Approaches in the World. A European Perspective (2026), in general:
In a more polarized political Situation worldwide, Europe or the European Union is in a phase of new Development. Especially with a continuously changing transatlantic Bond, this is a very special Challenge. Alliances, Pacts and Cooperations, founded after WWII, seemed to offer Western Europe a clear Security Stability and Protection in a profound way, as well as socio-economic Progress, Affluence and further democratic Development, also in Industry and Economy. This all is all under Pressure, being reevaluated right now.
International, Europe-wide and national: That is why, for example Europe is adjusting, a new International Order is forming. Where will this Development leading to? How and with whom will Europe cooperate, in what particular Way? How will Governments and the EU deal with conflicting Interests, both internally and externally? This seems to change almost weekly or monthly. Sustainable economic Goals remain a Priority, but are pushed into the Background by the dominant Security Policy and hard economic Factors. Questions of national and even continental Defense are becoming more important and significant.
Key Topics: Technology, IT, Regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) including “Machine / Deep Learning”, assuming stable, reliable and regulated systems. There is a Tendency in Europe, to strengthen regulatory Efforts regarding new technical Developments such as Security in the Realm of the Internet / AI and Data Security. Furthermore Europe is striving for greater Independence in key areas such as IT, Technology, Pharmaceuticals, and entire Supplier Systems Forces. States are increasingly aiming for Economic Independence, especially after a global Pandemic that exposed the problems of certain Supply Chains.
However, the advantages of the global Economy remain important, but are being increasingly modified in favor of independent, autarkic and self-sustainable Structures. All areas that entail greater Resilience and Self-Sufficiency are becoming more prominent: At a societal Level: Disaster Relief, Defense capabilities (Conscription / National Service).
Shifting Priorities and Focus Areas: Europe still forms a massive economic Market and is therefore an important international Player. Nationally, the “Social Question” in the sense of a Social Market Economy (and common good) constitutes an important economic Dynamic, which includes, among other things, a clear focus on and creation of affordable Housing, financially viable Education Systems and sensible (dental) Medical Care for the Population. Developments towards (energy) economic Autarky and Independence and greater Self-Sufficiency (sustainable autarkic Food Strategy, Home Cultivation, Self-Sufficiency), regardless of Political Orientation, in order to ensure greater Independence and Resilience over the medium to long term.
As an example, In Germany, on a regional and local Level, there are opportunities for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (SMB) through the so-called Energy Agencies of the Federal States to further their education in Areas of Circular Economy and sensible resource use. (The federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia – NRW offers for instance the NRW Efficiency Agency (efa), located in the state capital Düsseldorf, to assist with these Issues. On a national Level, Federal States, but also Cities, Counties and Municipalities in Germany often also provide Counseling Centers).
